How to Build a Wood Stove Using an Old Propane Tank
It’s no secret that propane gas can be used in a multitude of ways, but propane users are taking things a step further by getting creative with old propane tanks and turning them into homemade wood stoves. How sweet is that?
What a handy way to recycle that old, rusted propane tank taking up space in the garage or sitting in the yard! Take some me-time during your day off and get crafty. Grab a cold beer, switch on some tunes and complete your masterpiece. With a few supplies, you can make a durable wood stove for the entire family to enjoy on those chilly winter evenings.
This short video gives a quick rundown on how you can construct your very own propane tank wood stove.
Supplies
- An old propane tank
- Small sheet of metal (for a top plate)
- High-temperature paint (slather a few coats on after the pit is complete)

- Grate from a grille (to hold wood in the stove)
Tools
- Metal grinder
